Moving from Israel
We help families make a smooth transition with community, support, and joyful learning
For families coming from Israel
While living in the United States, Israeli families know that being at Schechter means their children feel tied to family back home, to the Israeli mentality and Hebrew.
We offer ELL (English Language Learner) support to students with little to no English language skills. Emerging English learners are given the critical structure and consistent support needed to access academic content and interact in English more quickly. Students meet either individually or in small groups several times each week with an ELL faculty member.
Israeli students generally make steady progress in English comprehension and the acquisition of vocabulary through daily interaction with friends and the constant osmosis of hearing English throughout the school day.
Our Hebrew program delivers more than fluency in the language. Hebrew teachers are native Israelis who use authentic materials that are aligned with current education standards in Israel.
Jewish life at Schechter is holistic and spiritual. It is our philosophy to expose our students to the richness of prayer, holidays and rituals and not impose beliefs. Every student comes to personal meaning through opportunities to explore and learn in our diverse, inclusive community.
In the end, whether you are left, right, Ashkenazi, Sephardi, dati or not dati (religious or not), whether you agree or do not agree, Kol Israel Achim (all of Israel are brothers/ family). Being at Schechter means being part of our family and people.
